If we have spoken about real estate recently, you would know my current stance on the market: it’s a great time to buy! Sales volume are down year over year and prices down month after month as the headlines read. I have recently taken my own advice.
I came across a deal too good to pass up for a small three bedroom semi. It’s a 20 minute walk from Eaton Centre. There’s a grocery store 2 minutes away. The DVP onramp is a 3 minute drive if I’m unlucky enough to catch the lights. There’s a future school being built at the end of the street. In terms of convenience, this home is hard to beat. I plan on making this my “city cottage”, when I need to escape the quiet suburbs for the bustle of downtown.
Now, for why it was such a great deal. It’s the oldest house on a street full of new homes, built in 1939 to be exact. The bones are great for a home of this age and there have been upgrades over the years, but mainly functional improvements: wiring, furnace, hot water tank, to name a few. On the surface, it’s fairly original, like walking into a time capsule. It’s not much to look at, unless you like yellow paint and mismatched flooring. It’s perfectly liveable as is, but it could be amazing with some improvements. In the coming weeks and months, I’ll be working with a designer to figure out ways to make this space truly worth posting about.
I’ll be posting more photos along the way to track the progress and compare before and after photos. If you are interested, follow along and PM me if you have any questions.
